Luffa

Description
Grown on our farmstead here in central Maine, these luffas (also known as loofahs) are great natural sponges that are eco-friendly and 100% biodegradable. Luffas are related to gourds and are typically grown in warmer climates. They are slow to mature, so they require a long growing season. However, despite our short growing season, we were able to grow them in our greenhouse! We started the seeds in late February and harvested the majority of them in November after the plants were killed by frost. Thankfully, we were able to get a decent harvest.
These long lasting sponges can be used on the face and body, or for other cleaning needs (dishes, etc.). When you are ready to dispose of them, just add them to your compost pile.
Each luffa is about 5 inches long and vary in diameter.
